Ongoing Research

These declassified documents are related to Libya's attempt open a dialogue with the United States in the late 1980s and 1990s. I was interested in illuminating Libyan overtures and American responses in the years before the deal in which Libya abandoned its unconventional weapons programs in return for normalized relations with the U.S. for my dissertation. My FOIA requests to the State Department returned 12  documents, most of little insight (four documents were withheld in their entirety). But here they are for what they're worth. I have yet to summarize them, but most are self-explanatory.
